New Hyde Park Memorial High School hosted the 2024-2025 Fall Pep Rally on October 18, 2024 to celebrate the closing of the fall sports season. Pep Rally consisted of performances from the NHP Pep Band and the four student performing groups, as well as the recognition of all fall sports teams and the twelve seniors named Homecoming Royalty.
The New Hyde Park cheer team, Romanettes, Step Team and Twirlers executed choreographed dance routines that had been planned and practiced for months beforehand.
“As the president of a school that I would consider very well-rounded between academics, sports, clubs, and student activities of the like, I can’t help but sing the praises of our outstanding performance teams. This past weekend has featured two unique performances from each of our four groups. If there’s one word I could describe them with, it would be consistent,” senior Alex Tomalski said.
The performing groups devoted the previous months to practicing their performances for Pep Rally and Homecoming weekend. Their performances included many popular songs, such as “Dance The Night” by Dua Lipa, “Hot and Cold” by Katy Perry and “Truth or Dare” by Tyla.
“Pep rally is always one of the busiest times during the year for us. We spend a lot of time practicing throughout the summer to prepare for our performance and we work very hard trying to make a fun, exciting routine to perform in front of the school,” Romanettes senior captain Lauren Yip said.
“I am extremely proud of the Romanettes because all the hard work and dedication they put in during morning practice really came together when we performed,” senior Zury Contreras said.
Following the performances, the names of all sports players on Junior High, Junior Varsity and Varsity level teams were announced by their respective coaches. As athletes walked across the field, their peers and coaches cheered and clapped for them from the bleachers.
“This year’s Pep Rally is one for the books. The atmosphere was great because everyone was supporting each other,” Contreras said.
