In previous editions of The Chariot, we have covered the congestion in the math hallway in New Hyde Park. After a lengthy process of deliberation and community input, the school has implemented a solution, which has divided the students of New Hyde Park.
Modeled after New York City’s approach (also covered before in The Chariot), the administration has implemented a congestion pricing approach in the math hallway. During the passing periods, it now costs $9 to enter the math hallway, with a smaller fee of $2.25 during periods.
Students pay using their ID cards or can pay in cash, with the school encouraging students to use their ID cards, but not showing any benefits that are used paying this way.
Students at New Hyde Park have had mixed opinions over the new initiative.
“I don’t have an excuse anymore for not being on time to class,” freshman Dee Layed said.
“This new plan will help stop the school heating effect, caused by unnecessary student activity in the hallways,” a science teacher noted.
“I implore President Donald Trump to put an end to this, as he has been trying to do to NYC’s cash grab scheme,” senior JB France said.
The use for the new funding is unclear. Some speculate that it is being used to fund new hallway TVs. Others speculate that it is being used to fund new AI-generated songs encouraging the wearing of ID cards.
“No matter what the funds are being used for, I’m sure the student body will agree that it was necessary for the school to collect the toll,” junior Mun E. said.
