Sophmores Jacob Bolur and Aditi Parikh speak with Mr.GPT to prevent potential senioritis.
Due to the great spread of senioritis in New Hyde Park, many seniors have struggled to perform at a strong academic level. Many have been skipping class, getting low test grades or have not been submitting work. Even the students that would take six AP classes and strive towards impressive transcripts, caught the disease.
“It’s like a tingling feeling,” senior Aayan Ahmed said. “I don’t know how to stop it. I feel too lazy to even try and stop it.”
New Hyde Park’s faculty and staff decided to have a meeting. They knew that the teachers were losing control and had to act quickly. According to an anonymous source, Ms.DeGennaro went searching for the perfect teacher to cope with senioritis. After some digging, Mr. GPT was hired.
Since the hiring of ChatGPT, there has been an increase in homework submissions and many test grades have improved.
“Mr. GPT has helped me create study guides, create practice questions, and create a daily planner to manage my time better,” senior Zury Contreras said.
“He does so much for us,” senior Richard Shibu said. “He even gives us answers to questions we don’t know the answer to and can explain it perfectly.”
Students have enjoyed Mr. GPT’s assistance, but many believe he is not contributing to the decrease in senioritis. Numerous seniors are still going through senioritis even with Mr.GPT’s presence.
“I thought with him being here would help me with my senioritis,” senior Sahir Bhatia said. “Since he’s basically giving us answers I still feel too lazy to try harder. I get my work done but it’s not the same.”
Mr. GPT has been giving answers to anyone that asks; this takes away the learning aspect as many will just search for the answer without trying to understand. However, other students will go to Mr. GPT for help and to genuinely learn. This now has everyone wondering if the hiring of ChatGPT was for the better or for the worst.
