The 2025 Women’s March Madness resulted in a blow-out performance from UConn over South Carolina by a score of 82-59. Led by five-year veteran Paige Bueckers, the Huskies outplayed the teams across the bracket. This was the Huskies’ first national championship win since 2016 where they had previously won four straight.
“Paige Bueckers was very impressive during this tournament,” senior Ava Orbon said. “The Huskies dominated and crushed many teams.”
The 2025 women’s tournament lacked upsets, as well as close games. There were a multitude of games that ended with a double digit deficit. Many fans weren’t too satisfied with this year’s event as it lacked the entertainment they seek.
“I enjoy March Madness because of the thrilling games and Cinderella stories,” senior Charles Vasquez said. “I keep up with women’s March Madness, but this year it didn’t feel the same. They just weren’t entertaining.”
This could potentially be because of the loss of the Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year JuJu Watkins. Watkins suffered a torn ACL in just the second round. Despite the loss of Watkins, the Trojans were able to persevere and make it to the Final Four. They would ultimately lose to Paige Bueckers and the Huskies.
“Juju Watkins is a phenomenal player and really made women’s basketball entertaining,” senior Sahir Bhatia said. “Her injury may have taken away potential exciting moments in the tournament. She could have made the UConn matchup much more entertaining.”
The tournament had many thrilling moments. Although it may have not been as entertaining as years past, it still brought great moments.
“I support the Huskies, so for me personally it was a great tournament,” said senior Jeremy Delacruz. “Not every tournament can be perfect, you have to look at the bright side.”
