As of April, NHP has received its newest wave of college commitments. Three seniors at NHP have decided to continue playing their sports in college after several years of hard work and dedication. Charlie Vasquez, Dylan Colon and Eamon Griffin are currently wrapping up their high school sports careers with the spring season.
Vasquez is committed to playing Division III baseball at Utica University, Colon is committed to playing Division III baseball at St. Joseph’s University, New York, Brooklyn and Griffin is committed to playing Division III soccer at SUNY Morrisville.
Season after season, athletes become accustomed to the game, allowing them to set expectations for themselves and what they are likely to face. When asked, these fellow athletes commented on the expectations they will strive to meet in order to ensure success for their freshman collegiate season.
“I expect to get a new experience and see what it takes to earn a roster spot. The setting will be entirely different so I know I have to adapt myself and give out all of my effort in order to be successful in my freshman season,” Vasquez said.
“In my first year of college sports, I expect tough competition, growth, and a chance to prove myself,” Colon said.
“I hope that my first year of collegiate sports will be similar to high school and club. I expect to win and have fun. I want to prepare myself so I can be ready and be the best I can possibly be. I don’t really expect anything else, but I plan for the worst but I hope for the best. Grit and determination is my backbone in anything I do,” Griffin said.
Through their high school and travel sports careers, these NHP student-athletes have committed themselves towards giving all their energy into the games in which they love.
“I worked hard consistently by working out, practicing and watching films,” Vasquez said.
“I got here through years of hard work, discipline and staying committed on and off the field,” Colon said.
There are thousands of colleges and universities that are homes for student-athletes across the country. However, every student-athlete has their own reason for committing to a school where they will further their education and athletics.
“The strong academics, welcoming environment, and supportive coaches all played a significant role in my attachment to the school and were a driving factor for me to continue to play at the collegiate level,” Colon said.
