NHP awaits Squid Game Season 3, wondering what will happen to their favorite characters.
“Squid Game,” Netflix’s most popular non-English series, is “stepping into the games one last time” with its third and final season premiering on June 27, 2025. Picking up after the twist of the Season 2 finale, “Squid Game” is entering the last round, as fans all over the world await Season 3.
At its core, “Squid Game” is a South Korean psychological thriller, where financially desperate individuals are forced into playing deadly children’s games for a large sum of money. Season 1 introduces the main character Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who is portrayed as a gambling addict struggling with debt and family problems. He is invited into the games, along with hundreds of other players in a similar financial situation. After many trials, betrayals and deaths, Gi-hun survives the games, bent on destroying them. He attempts to do this in Season 2, which continues after a one-year timeskip from Season 1. Gi-hun returns to the games and learns more about the organization behind the games, and their true motives. Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger, indicating that Season 3 will likely continue the narrative with him trying to destroy the games from within.
The official teaser for Season 3 came out on May 22, hinting at what’s next for Gi-hun and his major antagonist, the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun), along with other surviving characters from Season 2. The teaser hints at what dangerous games the players will have to compete in next.
“I freaked out when I saw the teaser on TikTok,” freshman Hailey Velez said. “I scrolled through the comments and saw so many conspiracy theories. I even tried coming up with some on my own.”
Fans from NHP, both students and teachers, are waiting to see what twists and turns Season 3 of “Squid Game” has to offer, and what deadly misadventures our protagonist will go through next.
“‘Squid Game’ is an excellent show that gives its audience a unique premise. Play a game and win money. . . but only if you survive. ‘Squid Game’ is a fun show that left me wanting more and more. Season 2 was good, not as good as Season 1, but it was good. It dove deeper into the origin of the squid games and why they were even happening. I’m excited to see Season 3,” math teacher Mr. Maltese said. “There’s just one problem. The time between seasons airing is way too long. I feel that audiences lose interest because of the amount of new shows being released all the time. If they want people to watch, they better release Season 3 ASAP.”
“I’m going to be sad if my favorite characters die, but besides that I’m really hyped for it. I want double the action, more than Season 1 and 2 combined,” seventh grader Kehan Makalanda said.
