New Hyde Park’s varsity football team delivered a dominant performance in their Homecoming matchup, defeating Valley Stream Central 42–13. Under the leadership of head coach Colin Maier, the Gladiators showcased poise, energy and teamwork in a game that electrified the home crowd from the very first snap.
The Gladiators received the opening kickoff and immediately set the tone. Junior Christian Kwon intercepted a pass on the first play, giving NHP early momentum. Running back Lukas Rinaldi powered through the defense for a long gain to the 40-yard line before Nick Boerum found the end zone for the team’s first touchdown.
The defense remained impenetrable as Brendan Rooney, Nick Boerum and Matt Locker each made key tackles to halt Valley Stream’s advances. Boerum later made a standout interception, while Rinaldi and Rocco Migliore connected for another series of explosive runs. Rinaldi capped the drive with his second touchdown of the quarter. The first quarter ended 21–0, setting the tone for what would be a statement win.
Momentum continued in the second quarter. Brendan Rooney broke free for a 40-yard run, setting up a touchdown from quarterback Chris Notine. Oberwiler’s kick extended the lead to 28–0. The Gladiators’ defense continued to dominate, highlighted by Joey Teetz intercepting a pass to keep the ball in NHP’s control. Notine’s next touchdown and Boerum’s second of the game helped NHP close the half with a commanding 42–0 lead after two quarters of exceptional offense and disciplined defense.
“From six months ago not being able to walk, get up or do anything on my own, it just shows you that with hard work and determination you can do anything you put your mind to,” senior Joey Teetz said. “Finally being back on the field makes all the hours of work worth it. It’s truly a blessing to go on this final ride with the guys. Roll Glads!”
While the third quarter saw no scoring, New Hyde Park maintained control of the field through precise blocking and consistent stops. In the final quarter, Valley Stream managed two touchdowns, converting one extra point, but Hunter Nacewicz prevented a second conversion with a well-timed stop. Despite the late push from their opponents, New Hyde Park’s early dominance secured a decisive 42–13 victory.
“The game was great,” freshman Vraj Shah said. “Seeing the crowd in a frenzy like that, it’s always amazing to have a win on Homecoming day.”
“Watching New Hyde Park dominate was an electric experience,” social studies teacher Dr. Kevin Kowalczyk said. “It brought back so many great memories from when I was a student here.”
With the Homecoming win, the Gladiators demonstrated not just athletic excellence but the unity and determination that define New Hyde Park athletics. The team now looks ahead to the rest of the season with confidence and drive, ready to keep their winning spirit alive.
