On September 26, 2025, New Hyde Park Memorial High School hosted its annual pep rally, sponsoring school spirit and honoring the sports teams. This event was held outdoors on the field as students and teachers were able to come together to fill the bleachers and watch the show, which showcased a variety of selections from the New Hyde Park band and performance groups.
The event was introduced with a live production from the school band, in which popular songs, including the national anthem, were performed. Following the band were the dance groups, including the Romanettes, Twirlers, Cheer and Step teams. The performers executed their choreographies, which they had all trained in advance for. The groups had multiple days of practice during the summer as well as during the upcoming weeks of pep rally, many meeting at 6:15 am to hone their skills.
“I thought our performance was amazing and SO much fun! I love the musical ‘Mamma Mia’ and being able to perform this song was so special to me, especially since it’s my first year on the Twirlers team. We had been practicing our routines in the morning since at least the start of the summer,” sophomore Dhruvi Dani said.
The sports teams came next, where junior high, junior varsity and varsity athletes walked across the field after their coaches announced their team members. As the players were recognized, the crowd showed their support by applauding them from the bleachers.
“Junior varsity volleyball is working hard during practice, and I was so proud of them when they walked across the field,” Coach Collins said. “They earn all their wins.”
The energy was immense, with most of the excitement coming from the audience cheering on the performances. Students and faculty were able to express their school spirit and enthusiasm, making the pep rally an enjoyable experience for many.
“I enjoyed watching the different performances from the dance teams. It was my favorite part of the pep rally, especially since each performance was unique in its own way,” sophomore Zhixuan Wu said.
