Special education teacher Ms. Taryn Doyle was awarded the honor of being Teacher of the Year for the school year 2025-2026. The highly anticipated award is presented to teachers who have proven their diligence and enthusiasm to being the best version of themselves for their students. Ms. Doyle is highly involved in NHP’s Coffee Café where baked goods and drinks, as well as her homemade dog treats, are sold every other week. Her past 25 years of teaching have left a lasting impression on those around her.
An alumna of Sewanhaka High School, Ms. Doyle was inspired to become a teacher because of the connections she made during her own years as a student. After graduating from college, she took the opportunity to teach at the district that she grew up in. She was eager to give back to the community that shaped her. When she learned that she was awarded this honor, she truly felt like it was a full-circle moment.
“Watching my students succeed at the Coffee Café and seeing their pride when the café they help run is so popular makes the early mornings, the trips to the Restaurant Depot and the hours on my feet the morning of sales absolutely worth it,” said Ms. Doyle.
Ms. Doyle runs the Coffee Café alongside Mr. Napoli. They started it to give students a chance to build real-life vocational skills and prepare for future community internships. Both students and staff have mentioned their excitement for the coffee sales. Additionally, the café has expanded to become a catering business, creating food for AP classes, Board of Education meetings and other events.
“The coffee and pastries the Coffee café served are something I look forward to every other week. The hard work and care from Ms. Doyle can be seen through the dedication of her students and the delicious food,” said junior Ishwin Kler.
Her colleagues attest to her dedication and hard work.
“Ms. Doyle absolutely deserves this award because she’s incredibly dedicated and devoted to her students. She works so incredibly hard with her students to give them the best well-rounded environment that I can’t imagine another teacher winning this award,” said special education teacher Ms. Bianco.
“She does a great job showing kids how to operate on a day-to-day basis. Her dedication can clearly be seen in her effect on the students, as she allows them to learn skills, like public speaking, managing a business, or using a cash register,” said science teacher Mr. Denara.
Ms. Doyle cherishes the experience of watching her students grow, gain confidence and take pride in their work. Their success and dedication continue to inspire Ms. Doyle and remind her why she loves teaching.
