“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is an extremely popular show adapted from author Jenny Han’s novel trilogy: “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “It’s Not Summer Without You” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.” The third and final season aired on July 16, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video, and ended on September 17, 2025. The show has connected strongly with teen and young adult audiences with its heartfelt themes of first love and coming of age.
At its heart, the show is a romantic drama centered on the love triangle between protagonist Isabel “Belly” Conklin and two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, who develop feelings for her. Every year, Belly travels with her family to the Fisher’s beach house and stays there for the summer. She has had a long-time crush on Conrad. However, their dynamic is slightly disrupted by personality shift, family issues and by Jeremiah, who also ends up falling for Belly after one summer.
“’The Summer I Turned Pretty’ does a nice job capturing the tough moments of a love triangle, as well as having great moments with family. You can really see the love in Conrad’s eyes whenever he just looks at Belly,” sophomore Celine Mei said.
Seasons 1 and 2 took place during the characters’ teenage years, where Belly was often juggling between her harbored feelings for Conrad and her newly blossoming relationship with Jeremiah. Season 3, followed by a time skip to when Belly is in her junior year of college, deals with concepts of marriage plans, heartbreak, unresolved feelings and grief. Many major scenes in Season 3 that have gone viral with fans include domestic moments, confessions and reunions that underscore emotional intimacy and connection among the characters, along with the drama the show presented.
“I read the books and then watched the show. I have to admit, it’s definitely one of those shows that keeps you watching even when you’re shaking your head at the characters! Honestly? The parents’ storyline is just as interesting as the kids,” world language teacher Ms. Mei-Chan said. “I would love to see a prequel! And as for the big question, I’m team Conrad for the win! Though I’m starting to think both brothers deserve better!”
The series itself evolved throughout its run, with Season 3 bringing particularly notable changes from the books and previous seasons. With 11 episodes, compared to 7 in Season 1 and 8 in Season 2, the final season offered more room for character development and exploration, as well as allowing a deeper dive into the emotional stakes of growing up. Though the season concludes the main narrative, a planned finale movie will offer one last chance to explore these characters and tie up any remaining plotlines.
“I liked all the seasons, and season 3 was a really nice way to end. I feel like we got closure for a lot of the characters, and the relationships that we had,” freshman Hannah Jung said.
When the season ended, fans were left with a mixture of nostalgia and peace. Whether people were rooting for Conrad from the beginning, supported Jeremiah throughout or simply wanted Belly to find happiness, the ending captured something true about growing up and moving forward.
