Senior field hockey standout Emily Sepcaru has earned the number three spot on Newsday’s Top 50 Field Hockey Players list with 10 goals and 12 assists, recognizing her as one of Long Island’s best. Her dedication, skills and leadership on and off the field have made her a driving force behind her team’s success this season.
For senior Emily Sepcaru, the recognition is more than just a ranking. It reflects years of dedication and growth.
“This accomplishment means a lot to me because it shows that my hard work since last season has paid off. Any free time I had, I would go and practice field hockey. Even if it was cold and rainy or hot and sunny, I would be on the field forcing myself to get better,” senior Emily Sepcaru said. “This proves I have grown as a player because it shows my commitment to improving and constantly pushing myself to be better. There are so many talented field hockey players on Long Island, and to be recognized as one of them is truly an honor.”
Her commitment to field hockey extends beyond the school field. Her determination and drive also follow her on her travel team. There, she constantly works to refine her skills and elevate her game. From practicing year-round to intense games, her dedication and focus have made her a key player in every game.
This hard work is not only recognized by Newsday, but by her coaches. She is credited for her strong work ethic, discipline and setting an example for her teammates.
“Emily’s success comes from the time and effort she put in during the offseason to elevate her stick work and game sense. She’s become a more complete player — not just a goal scorer, but a playmaker who makes everyone around her better. She currently ranks third in Nassau County for total points and has recorded at least one goal or assist in every game this season, leading our team with 12 assists. She sits tied 6th overall in Nassau County with 10 goals,” Coach Brocking said. “Emily’s dedication and growth make her a great role model for other players — she is proof that hard work truly pays off. Playing club field hockey has deepened her understanding of the game, helping her develop into one of the most well-rounded players in Nassau County.”
Even with Emily’s outstanding achievements in field hockey, she remains a down-to-earth and kind person. Her fellow peers commend her athletic excellence and perseverance as well as her wit and humor.
“Emily is one of the best field hockey players I’ve ever seen. She is so talented and she has worked so hard. She is as incredible off the field as she is on the field. She is so funny and so kind. Emily is just incredible,” senior field hockey player Calum Rouzier said.
Emily’s accomplishments in field hockey are far from over. She has officially committed to SUNY New Paltz, where she will continue her athletic and academic career, and will continue to bring the same energy and drive that made her one of Long Island’s top players.
