Dear New Hyde Park Memorial High School, Class of 2024,
Before you read my goodbye letter, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for the advice you’ve given to me. Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the family. My journey in high school has been a blessing because of you guys, New Hyde Park Memorial’s Class of 2024.
Hi, this is senior class president, Nogy (Brandon Noguera), writing to my fellow classmates on a beautiful Saturday evening. Today, while playing tennis, my partner Tom was discussing how far I’d come for only ten weeks of playing, which made me think of you guys. Let’s take a second to discuss how far we have come over the past six years, not only as a class, but as individuals. In seventh grade, I was scared, not because of the stereotypical idea of kids getting their heads shoved in lockers, but because of the future. In seventh grade, I wrote myself a letter containing a few questions for me to answer when the future (end of senior year) came. One of the questions was, “Did you get into Columbia University?” The simple answer was no, but that doesn’t make me sad or upset because my letter written in seventh grade taught me that it’s okay if you don’t get what you want because interests change and things happen for a reason. I know that all of you have certainly changed interests in life or experienced some type of unexpected change, especially in your high school careers, whether it be something large such as your desired future or something small such as your favorite food. If something happens the way you didn’t expect it, just know that change is okay because look how much we’ve changed from our shy and lost seventh grade selves to our current, radiant selves.
Another question I asked myself was, “How many friends do you have?” The answer is zero. Over the course of high school, I’ve been blessed with an opportunity to get to know each and every one of you whether it be through class or hanging out on our own time. During my time as class president, I’ve developed relationships with all of you whether it be through Senior Sunset, Battle of the Classes, Senior Week, or some other event or time. We still have numerous class activities to experience and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my high school career with each of you. I said I have zero friends because the truth is, I have one big family: New Hyde Park Memorial’s Class of 2024. We, the New Hyde Park Memorial Class of 2024, are a large family composed of the most diverse and unique people such as those on performance teams, collegiate athletes, business-owners and entrepreneurs, fire fighters, Model UN debate champions, and more. We carry a strong reputation and will leave New Hyde Park being remembered for our prestige for years on years by faculty, staff, and of course, students. With only about three days left of school, we still have to celebrate Senior Sunset, Senior Barbecue, and Graduation. We are in the final stretch of high school, so let’s use our time wisely and create memories for us to hold onto for the rest of our lives. Thank you New Hyde Park Memorial’s Class of 2024 for the wonderful times; I can’t wait to spend the last couple weeks of my high school career with you all and see how far you all go in life.
It’s been a pleasure serving you,
Nogy (Brandon Noguera), New Hyde Park Memorial President of the Class of 2024, out.
