As I sit down to write this letter, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions—gratitude, nostalgia, and a hint of sadness. Serving as your student council president this past year has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it’s hard to believe that my time in this role has come to an end.
Over the last four years, the student council has begun to play a huge role in my everyday life. Eighth grade me heard my older sister Alessia speaking on the announcements every morning and hoped that one day that could be me, too. This sparked a feeling of desire in me. That’s when I ran for student council as the Junior High Activities Coordinator and never looked back. Year after year, I continued to raise my status in the student council until the end of junior year when I knew it was time for the biggest election of all. Hearing the results went my way was very exciting, but also very nerve wracking. It was time to take on a huge responsibility but without it, I don’t know where I’d be today.
The experience I was able to take in from serving as student council president helped me grow as a person so much. From the early morning greetings to the late night setups, it all became worth it in the end. Some of my favorite events we hosted throughout the year were P.S. I Love You Day and our senior citizen luncheon. Both events gave me a satisfying feeling, bringing our community together whether they were students or alumni from years ago. The work put in to make those events the best we can make them was tough, but at the end of the day our student council’s main concern is who our events apply to. Being able to see all the students participate in the various games and activities we set up around the school was great. It gave us a feeling of excitement, our work paid off. This year’s events were great and I’m glad I was able to put in the time to plan and set it all up.
With all the hard work came many benefits and opportunities I’m glad to have had. I’m going to miss greeting the student body every morning on the announcements. That was a privilege I took great pride in and loved to do. Being given the opportunity to MC the fall pep rally was another great honor. Looking around seeing all the blue and white, all the school spirit, it was a feeling like no other. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to take on both of these roles.
As I prepare to pass the torch to the next president, I am confident that our council is in capable hands. I encourage you all to continue to strive for excellence, to support one another, and to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can accomplish together. Remember, leadership is not about the title, but about making a difference and inspiring others to do the same.
Lastly, to the student body, thank you for allowing me to serve you. It has been an honor and a privilege. As I move on to new challenges and opportunities, I carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the countless memories that will always have a special place in my heart.
Remember, it is always a great day to be a gladiator.
