The New Hyde Park Memorial Class of 2024 celebrated their senior prom on June 4, 2024. Many seniors will remember the prom as both an exciting night and their final opportunity to make new memories with their friends. The prom was held at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, Queens.
“I really enjoyed the aesthetics of the area. The waters combined with the greenery was absolutely beautiful,” senior Rebecca John said.
When the seniors arrived, they were able to meet their friends and take pictures on the water. As they entered the venue, they were served appetizers, such as pasta, fruit and mini pizzas. During cocktail hour, they were given the opportunity to take a video with their friends using a spinning 360-degree ring light.
After about an hour, the seniors moved into a larger room with their seating assignments and a large dance floor. The seniors were served four courses in between twenty minute intervals of dancing. As the night ended, students also had the opportunity to grab food from a food truck serving Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Taco Bell.
“I could tell that Ms. Katz and Mr. DiScala put so much effort into planning this and making it the best possible experience for our class and for that I’m so grateful,” senior Chesna Chummar said.
Prom was a night to remember for class advisers Mr. DiScala and Ms. Katz who put great time and effort into the planning and preparation of the night.
“For myself, [the highlight] was actually standing at the top of the steps and watching all the seniors and their dates come in. Just looking at how dazzling they were in their dresses and tuxes was very nostalgic. I had a lot of them in seventh grade and seeing how much they’ve grown and matured six years later was the culmination of the whole middle school and high school experience,” Mr. DiScala said.
Although senior prom was one of the final opportunities for the Class of 2024 to celebrate together, many seniors found the night to be one of the highlights of their high school years.
“Prom was very fun this year. The food was excellent, the dance floor was full and active the whole time and the venue was beautiful,” senior Ethan Mehta said.
“Prom was special for me because it was a moment that defines our success of four long years of high school in a gratifying reward. It allowed me to have one last party with my friends before college, which is bittersweet,” senior Brandon Dampman said.
