On Pajama Day, the seniors of New Hyde Park got cozy with their most comfortable sleepwear. New Hyde Park’s hallways were awash with flannel, stuffed animals and slippers, showing off the seniors’ cozy creativity.
“For Pajama Day I think it’s so cute how most of the seniors are bringing in pillows or stuffed animals. I brought a sleeping mask myself,” senior Serina John said.
“I enjoyed Pajama Day! I got to wear my pajamas and a cute bathrobe with dog paws on it that I got for Christmas. It was fun!” senior Ava Helkowiski said.
Seniors also enjoyed seeing their classmates dressed up in their most relaxed clothes and with their sleeping accessories.
“I loved PJ day. It was so fun to dress up and be comfy throughout the school day. I also thought it was pretty cool to see my classmates in bonnets and slippers; it was a cool day,” senior Deborah Aderibigbe said.
Beyond just wearing their pajamas, the seniors also practiced the traditions that make Pajama Day on Senior Week unique from any other spirit week, which includes taking a nap in the dead hallway.
“Pajama Day was a fun theme; it’s a tradition to do pjs for any spirit week but it was particularly fun because of senior nap time. In the passing period between periods 3 and 4, the senior class went to the dead hallway and we all napped! It was a fun experience and something I’ll remember,” senior Janice Zhang said.
“Pajama Day was such a fun day during senior week. I was so comfy all day and I wore matching animal slippers with all my friends. I had bunny slippers, and some wore pigs and penguins. Sleeping in the dead hallway was always something I looked forward to doing because I got pranked every year during high school by the seniors so being able to get back at everyone was a great moment,” senior Destiny Gillespie said.
After many years of hard work, the seniors were able to take Pajama Day as an opportunity to relax, take pictures and hang out with their friends and celebrate their accomplishments.
