On March 19, 2026, New Hyde Park held their annual Winter Sports Awards Night. Hosted by athletic director Thomas Piccirillo, this awards night celebrated New Hyde Park’s hardworking athletes. NHP teams in attendance included junior varsity and varsity boys basketball, junior varsity and varsity girls basketball, junior varsity and varsity cheerleading and varsity track and field. For district teams, wrestling, gymnastics, riflery, boys swim and bowling also partook.
The event began with an introductory speech held by athletic director Piccirillo. He commended the winter athletes for their dedication to a winter season that often consisted of long hours after school on the fields, courts and gym. He went on to highlight athletes that completed the season with all-county awards. Athletes Charles Avallone, Dilpreet Singh, Belinay Inan, Sarah Cano, Maeve Downing, Breanne Noguera, Chloe Urban, Trevor Myers, Mark Lou, Joshua Agliam and Andrew Tso accepted these awards with joy.
“It felt really special getting this award. Especially since I was out my whole junior year with an ACL tear and I put in a lot of hard work to get back to where I once was with basketball, it felt great being recognized for it,” senior Breanne Noguera said.
Team acknowledgements followed after all-county awards. District boys bowling had a commanding school record of 115-6 overall, 12-0 in conference, placing first in conference and fifth in Nassau County. JV boys basketball also impressively went 15-4 overall and 11-1 in league, finishing first in league. Many other teams were also congratulated for outstanding accomplishments, making the NHP community proud.
“The winter season is a testament to how dedicated NHP’s athletic program and students are. Every year they beat their previous record and it makes me proud to see my friends who work so hard be successful,” senior Alexander Krawcyzk said.
To close the night, the athletic teams in attendance broke off into separate rooms where individual awards were given. These breakout rooms provided an intimate space where the bonds between coaches and athletes truly shone.
“The breakout rooms give coaches and athletes a more relaxed space to connect with each other and their family members. When we are in these smaller groups, the highlights and memories can be shared in a more individualized and meaningful way. It allows for the coaches and athletes to focus more on the connection than just the achievement. It becomes more personal than just wins and losses,” coach Bianco said.
The Winter Sports Awards was a success in recognizing not only the athletes of NHP but the athletic department along with its staff as a whole. NHP excitedly anticipates next year’s Winter Sports Awards Night.
