New Hyde Park Memorial is happy to announce that our very own Coach Leydon is in the trials for the Olympics! After coaching shot-put and discus for nine years for the track team, her skills have earned her a chance to represent team USA at the Spring Olympics.
“I am nervous but I am confident my training will help me excel in the trials. It’s been a lot of long days training after school and early morning lifts but at this point I need to trust my skill and ability. I’m going in with a positive attitude and want to make my family and community proud,” Coach Leydon said.
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, the Varsity Track Team and her fellow coaches have seen the grit and passion she has put into this endeavor.
“I feel very proud of her training and her determination to make it this far. She has been so focused and it’s absolutely incredible to see one of our very own competing with the most prestigious athletes in the world,” Coach Bianco said.
The skills that brought her to coach NHP’s Varsity Track team is now what brings her to take the big stage and throw her heart out alongside the best of the best.
Starting off with humble beginnings with fixing students’ form, now fixing her own to make sure she makes it to the olympics. She has come far (throwing farther too) and will only become stronger.
“Coach Leydon said I should do shot-put, so I did. It’s really been helping my anger issues,” Regina George said.
“Coach Leydon goes to the gym everyday, so I did too,” Miley Cyrus said.
“Knowing Coach Leydon she will definitely get gold for the US. I have no doubt,” NumOneLeydonFan said.
As the Track season continues, Coach Leydon will train NHP throwers to be their best and hopefully get on the olympic level so that one day they will have the opportunity she has!
Stay tuned to find out more about how Coach Leydon trained to get to the olympic level.
