On March 27, juniors and seniors competed in a series of activities during Junior-Senior Challenge Night, a yearly tradition aimed at bringing the two classes together, with competition, collaboration, and celebration. Several events were hosted to determine which class would prevail.
“Watching the junior class compete was really exciting, especially because it was an event I’ve been looking forward to. Being able to perform with the STEP team also made it special and a moment to remember,” said junior Fiona Premcy.
This event, combined with the pep rally, serves to showcase school pride. It also celebrates the different sports teams and performing groups, taking the time to recognize their accomplishments. Between the performances, juniors and seniors met face-to-face in a series of games.
“The purpose of the event is to build camaraderie and competition between the junior and seniors. It also helps builds school spirit among younger kids who watch it,” said Class of 2027 advisor Mr. Fernhoff.
The games included Tug of War, Basketball Free Throw, Cage Volleyball and other games that allowed students to show their school pride. Events ranged in skill and ability, allowing several students to participate. While certain games prioritize teamwork, others focus on individual skill and passion.
“It’s one of those bittersweet moments where you are enjoying what’s happening around you and it was so amazing that the seniors were able to win, but at the same time it was such a surreal moment because we are so close to graduating,” said senior Sanjna Nischal.
Seniors were especially eager to prove themselves, after their loss last year as well as this event being one of the final events they take part in as NHP gladiators. At the end of the battle, the seniors clinched the championship trophy 4:2.
“Competing at junior senior night with my class was honestly insanely fun and completely unreal. It was all about having fun and being there with my friends, which made it really special. It also made me realize that we only have one more year until we graduate and that this was one of those moments I wanted to hold onto forever” said junior Mariam Dar.
“It was definitely one of the best events I’ve ever experienced. What stood out the most was the strong sense of unity between the junior and senior classes, as everyone came together and worked as a team to win,” said senior Roshan Shaji. “Both classes gave their best effort, and the school spirit and camaraderie between the students were truly impressive and heartwarming.”
