With the commencement of the 2024-25 school year, four new teachers were introduced to New Hyde Park Memorial’s staff. Ms. Badalucco, Ms. Bianco, Ms. Collins and Mr. Spano spoke about their individual journeys to finding their passions for teaching and their new experiences as instructors at NHP.
Ms. Badalucco is the latest addition to the Special Education Department. Before graduating from Adelphi University, she had long-time ambitions of becoming a teacher.
“I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a young girl. I enjoy learning new things. I also find teaching to be a very rewarding career. Being a role model for students both in and out of the classroom has always inspired me,” Ms. Badalucco said.
Graduating with a master’s degree in education from Adelphi University last year, Ms. Bianco is a new addition to the Science Department at NHP. She shares her love for biology with her students in Biology and Grade 7 Science.
“Even in high school, my favorite class was Biology and my teacher was awesome. I love it because it’s very hands-on and very real, since everything is around us,” Ms. Bianco said.
Ms. Collins, a graduate from Adelphi University, has always held an appreciation for health and fitness and has joined the Physical Education Department. Ms. Collins also coaches Winter Track and Field alongside Mrs. Bianco.
“My experience at New Hyde Park has been amazing so far. Everyone is so welcoming and kind. The school environment is amazing to be a part of,” Ms. Collins said.
Mr. Spano now works in the Business Department with Ms. Zeppieri-Cervini, one of the individuals who inspired him to pursue teaching. Graduating from the district’s own Carey High School, Mr. Spano received his bachelor of business degree from Seton Hall University and his master’s degree from SUNY Oswego. With a strong passion for teaching, he shares his advice for people who are still determining their own interests and career goals.
“Reach out to professionals in your fields of interest to learn about their day-to-day experiences. Additionally, trust your instincts and remember that it’s okay to change direction if you feel you’re not on the right path,” Mr. Spano said.
