The Chariot has undergone a wave of recent layoffs due to rapid advancements in AI. With the rise of artificial intelligence models for writing, the newspaper has seen an increased need to “trim its fat.” I would cite external news sources, but our external news sources guy has just been laid off. So I’m writing this field report to keep you all informed about the matter.
“We’re going to have to fire every unnecessary staff member here,” editor-in-chief Darsh Mirchandani proclaimed, much louder than necessary. “Ms. Mannle, that includes you!”
This breaking news comes amidst the growing disdain of AI models becoming an ever-present part of digital life for most people. It begs the question: what will the future of online student journalism look like as ChatGPT takes all our (unpaid) jobs?
Typically, I’d put another quote from a student here to reinforce the points I’m talking about. But it seems that Quotesperson Do has also been fired from their position at the Chariot, so I’m out of luck. I’ll just keep listening in to continue my coverage of this breaking news.
“Shohom, what are you still doing here?” editor-in-chief Carmela Drossman-Schlossberg said to me. “You’re fired too! Stop writing whatever it is you’re writing”
Welp… nice knowing you all.
