On Friday, May 1st, New Hyde Park Memorial held their Decisions Day for the senior class, where seniors traditionally wear a T-shirt of their future plans to celebrate their achievements.
“Decision Day was a great way to celebrate the seniors’ success. I enjoyed spending time with my friends, making bracelets in our school colors, and taking pictures with the decorations,” senior Abigail Alexander said.
This year, however, was a little different, with the guidance department having a huge impact on the decision day and its success. The cafeteria was filled with blue and white decorations as well as a photo station. The photo station had many fun props including college flags, headbands, cutouts and more, adding to the fun environment of the day.
“The thought process behind Decision Day at NHP was to create a fun way for students to celebrate their achievements together and make memories they can look back on after graduation. It was created for all students to be recognized and celebrated, no matter what their post-high school plans may be,” guidance counselor Ms. Marino said.
Additionally, the guidance department provided a tattoo station and a bracelet-making station for the seniors to have a physical reminder of the special day.
“I liked Decision Day because we were given activities to do when we got to the cafeteria to bond with everyone else in our grade like make bracelets, tattoos and an area to take photos. It was a day to celebrate our successes,” senior Sarah Solomon said.
Decision Day marked a memorable and joyful event for the seniors, where they got to partake in fun activities, take many photos and look forward to their schools in the fall.
